Flexible design and superior accuracy for high-performance applications

Griesheim/Germany (November 2019) – VSM GmbH, part of the Moog Industrial Group, (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B), presents the new MGI633I with inverted planetary roller screw drive at the SPS.

The strengths of this new development are most obvious in applications such as servo welding guns in the automotive industry, dispensing systems or for heavy material processing such as pressing, stamping, joining, clinching as well as in testing applications.

Core of the MGI633I is an inverted planetary roller screw with very high dynamic load rating, the typical feature of planetary roller screws.

Its special hollow-shaft rotor is directly fitted with a long internal thread into which the roller nut meshes. A key feature here is the push-rod which is smoothly sealed, designed similarly to the piston of a hydraulic cylinder, it makes the system ideally suited for rough, dirty and dangerous operating conditions. Compared to ball screws further cost-intensive protective measures can thus be saved.

The drive itself is based on a well-established servo-actuator which delivers a peak force of 40 kN at a mass of approx. 16 kg. It is hence considerably lighter than other actuators offered on the market and provides great advantages especially in robotised applications.

With its high force density, the MGI features low energy consumption and reduces peripheral consumption at the same time due to its low net weight – an active contribution to resource conservation and CO2 footprint reduction.

Its electrically-based linear motion of course facilitates considerably more exact positioning compared to classical hydraulics via absolute value encoders and various feedback systems including integration in the control and automation systems.

Furthermore the high acceleration values of this drive concept are impressive, e.g. for rapid work cycles along with minimal vibration and noise emission.

In contrast to providers of standard linear technology, with VSM as its centre of competence, Moog concentrates on offering customer-specific solutions based on engineering effort. In this form, adaptation is possible which meets all customer demands and nonetheless achieves very short delivery times.

Pioneering comprehensive electromechanical solutions can be put in place in conjunction with the complementary, high-quality products from the Moog range, such as servo motors, servo drives, drive controller and others, providing production advantages to the end customer.

If you are looking for a high-performance, modular, customized, linear motion system, VSM in Griesheim, Germany, the Moog centre of competence, is your best point of contact for the job, especially as optimisation and growth potentials can be raised in the markets.
